Taylor Swift Sends Punishing Rainstorms to Southern California

Only kidding. Shake it off. We are forecast to get serious rain in Studio City between this Sunday, Feb. 4 and the following Tuesday, Feb. 6. That’s no laughing matter and cause for all of us to be vigilant.

To stay up with the latest there are two good services that offer free information:
There's a city system: https://emergency.lacity.gov/alerts/notifyla
And a county system: https://ready.lacounty.gov/emergency-notifications/

In the meantime, protect anything outside that can be damaged or washed away, check to make sure your gutters are clear, and if you notice street storm drains are clogged, call the City at 311 and they will attend to that task with urgency.

Preparing for the unpleasant is a necessity. To that end, there will be a Neighborhood Response Drill at Radford Studios on Saturday, Feb. 24. The flier is attached below.

The Studio City Neighborhood Council has invested in recovery equipment that will aid the community in assessing and recovering from any manner of calamity, including floods, fires, and earthquakes. That equipment is staged at Radford Studios, and we will be using some of it during the drill to check its condition and develop familiarity with it.

We need more volunteers to serve as block captains in a disaster to help survey damage and direct first responders, who will have their hands full. We will largely be reliant on each other in the first hours after a big event. It’s important we know each other and how we can best help.

To learn more, come on down and join us on the 24th. In the meantime, stay informed from credible sources, stay weather aware, and help your neighbor.

Chip Meehan
President
Studio City Neighborhood Council
