Is it just us, or are the roads getting holier?
Studio City officially ranks #8 out of 114 LA neighborhoods for pothole reports, according to a
report by xtown.la. Since last April, our neighbors have logged 952 reports on MyLA311.
While the recent rains are the immediate culprit, the data shows a deeper issue:
• The Paving Gap: A decade ago, the city paved 800 miles a year. This year? Estimates
are as low as 100 miles.
• Staffing Shortages: Only 12 of the city’s 28 pothole trucks are hitting the streets daily.
• The "Strip" Strategy: Notice the city only paving the middle of the street? It’s a tactic
to dodge “Measure ULA” legal requirement to improve things like bike and bus lanes, as
well as wheelchair ramps at intersections, every time it "paves" a street.
What can we do? Don't let our streets stay degraded. Keep reporting every "street paving issue"
you see to the MyLA311 app. It’s the only way to hold the city accountable and get Studio City
moved up the priority list.
