SCRA: Don't Build in High Risk Fire Areas

Tell Councilmember Raman and Mayor Bass: Don't Build on City Lots in High Fire-Risk Hillside Areas

The City is considering selling several publicly owned lots for housing under the Small Lots, Big Impacts (SBLI) ordinance. While infill housing in high-resourced areas makes sense, two of these lots are located in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Developing hillside parcels in these areas would increase wildfire and evacuation risks for residents and first responders. Recent fires have shown how tightly spaced hillside development can drive catastrophic structure-to-structure losses.
