Great River Walk

For 35 years, Angelenos have come together to care for the LA River, pulling trash from its banks, restoring habitat, and giving wildlife a chance to thrive.

This year’s Great LA River Cleanup takes place on Saturday, October 11 and Saturday, October 18, with four sites along the River to choose from (more info below).

Each site will host two volunteer shifts, beginning at 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM, so you can choose a time and place that works for you.

We hope you'll join us and be part of the largest urban river cleanup in the country!

Saturday, October 11th:

Willow Street Bridge (Long Beach)

This stretch of the River is framed in concrete but alive with cattails, willows, and visiting waterbirds. Volunteers here will help clear litter before it flows out to the ocean, protecting coastal habitats and giving local wildlife a cleaner place to thrive.

Bond Park (Atwater Village)

Here the River flows alongside one of LA's most beloved green spaces, Griffith Park. Because the water level is high this season, we won’t be able to reach the River islands, but we’ll focus our efforts on clearing out the smaller debris that collects along the banks

NOTE: This site has already reached capacity for volunteers, please register for one of our three other locations!

Saturday, October 18th

Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex

This site is where wide open fields meet one of the most natural stretches of the LA River. Volunteers will help restore this important wetland area by removing litter from the water’s edge and surrounding habitat. It’s a chance to make a lasting impact in a place where birds, fish, and native plants all thrive.

Compton Creek (Compton)

Just a short walk from the Metro A Line, Compton Creek is a vital tributary of the LA River. It’s lined with cattails and filled with the energy of a community that deeply cares for its environment. Volunteers here will join neighbors in protecting a beautiful pocket of urban nature that connects directly to the River’s future health.
