LAPD COMMUNITY CRIME MEETING

Last month the LAPD hosted a community meeting on the backlot of Radford Studios.  As you may know Studio City has seen a huge increase in home burglaries.   The LAPD says:

• There are 3 groups targeting the neighborhood – local gangs, transnational gangs (from other countries and local homeless/drug addicts who will see an open garage or house door and break in
• The LAPD says there has been several arrests and credit DA Hochman for enforcing the law

Some crime-fighting tips:

• Close your curtains when you’re not home
• Make sure your home is brightly lit on all floors; use smart light bulbs and timers to manage lights and vary the on/off times
• If you’re leaving overnight or longer use a device with timers or a FakeTV
• Don’t leave the garage door open; even when home
• Don’t leave gates and doors (and cars) unlocked
• Don’t leave trash cans in front of a fence; burglars use them to vault a fence
• Keep windows clear of bushes and brush so no can hide in them
• Keep your home well-lit on all sides all night long. Consider using motion-detector cameras
• Inform neighbors when you’re going out of town
• Get a dog – with a loud bark
• Bear Spray
