If you’ve ever looked at a November ballot and wondered, "How are these my only two options?"—the answer is usually what happens in June.
In Los Angeles, primary turnout historically hovers around 30%. That means a tiny slice of the population is making the "big" decisions for everyone else. Because California uses a "Top Two" system, only the two highest vote-getters move on to November, regardless of their party. If you don't vote now, your preferred candidate might not even make it to the general election.
The 50% Rule: If a candidate gets more than 50% of the vote in the primary, some races are decided outright. No November runoff. Game over.
One-and-Done Measures: Crucial ballot measures regarding cannabis taxes, hotel taxes, and county healthcare funding are decided now. These don't get a second round in November.
The Whole Slate: We’re narrowing the field for Governor, Congress, Mayor, City Council, and the School Board.
TOMORROW (May 4): Ballots begin mailing! Keep an eye on your mailbox—you can vote as soon as it arrives.
May 18: Last day to register to vote.
June 2: Election Day (The final deadline).
Don't let 30% of your neighbors decide your taxes and your leadership. Check your registration and see exactly what’s on your ballot here: [Insert Link]
