Sustainability Saturday :: Native Plants

Posted on 03/16/2024

Sustainability Saturday!

🦋Use less water and lower your water bills. Native plants are adapted to our climate and thus can survive on much less water than non-native vegetation.

🦋Save on maintenance. Once native plants are established, they need very little maintenance.

🦋Attract wildlife. In addition to bringing in birds, native plants attract pollinators including bees, butterflies and moths. Insects have co-evolved with native plants and will be attracted to the plants in your yard. If you enjoy seeing baby birds, native plants also provide habitat for caterpillars which make up the majority of food fed to baby birds.

🦋Help the climate. Many native plants are great sinks for storing carbon dioxide, particularly if you plant large native trees like oaks or sycamores.
