“Get to Know” Art Contest for Kids

This past April, Councilmember Tom LaBonge and the Recreation and Parks Department had the opportunity to launch the 2012 National “Get to Know” contest in Los Angeles with this year’s theme being Get to Know Your Wild Neighbors.

The goal of the Get to Know contest is to engage the power of art to help youth feel more connected with nature. It’s all about making connections with other environmentally passionate youth, using the creative arts such as video, photography, writing, drawings and music to convey their passion, and having their accomplishments celebrated. We invite youth to connect, create and celebrate with the Get to Know Contest!

Youth up to age 19 have until July 16th to submit their art entries in each category – art, music, writing, video and music.  The top winner of each category will receive a special experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® for themselves and up to 3 family members.  More details about prizes and rules for the contest can be found at get-to-know.org.

Councilmember LaBonge has challenged Los Angeles, Atlanta, Calgary, and Vancouver to see who can get the most entries. Let’s start submitting to put LA on top!

Visit get-to-know.org to help get started!! This can be a fun activity for after-school, day camp programs or for your kids this summer.
